COMMISSIONER APPLAUDS LAGOS PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS FOR EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE

The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated the pride of the State in the distinct quality of knowledge shown time and again by public school students in national and international competitions.

The transformation in the education sector under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has gradually returned the State education sector to an enviable position of excellence in recent times.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun stated this when he received pupils and students who made the State proud at the recently concluded Junior Engineers, Technicians, and Scientists (JETS) competition held in Abuja.

The Commissioner commended the students for their impressive performance and commitment to making Lagos State a shining star among other states and implored them to do more in future. He also appreciated the teachers for mentoring the students to make the State proud, saying, “The students went to Abuja, they saw, and they conquered the rest of Nigeria.

Alli-Balogun also stressed that the immense growth and improvement in the quality of Basic and Secondary education in the State will be scaled up with more intervention in infrastructure, capacity building and welfare of teachers. This is the target the State has set for the Ministry in addition to attaining global standards in teaching and learning.

It should be noted that Lagos State bagged the first prize, winning the Overall Best State in Nigeria and received medals for Best Overall Female JETS Student, and Tertiary Education Scholarship for three students. The State also received trophies for first position in the following categories; Primary Mathematics, Primary Technology, Junior Basic Science, Junior Computer, National Theme Project, Senior Mathematics and Physics.

The Lagos State team, which comprises pupils and students from Primary, Junior and Senior Secondary schools across the State, won a total of over 22 trophies and medals.

The presentation of Awards and Commendation Letters to the Schools Students and Teachers who participated in the competition was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Abayomi Abolaji and Directors from the Ministry.
