LAGOS SEEKS CORPORATE ORGANISATIONS’ SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule has called on
corporate organisations and other philanthropists in the society to
support the State government in its desire to provide quality and
functional education that will guarantee a better future for the
children.

Dr. Adebule made the call today while commissioning a Two-Storey
building donated by Mr. Chahid Raffoul, the Managing Director/ Chief
Executive Officer of Kazuma Shipping Company, to Ladi-Lak Primary
School, Apapa as part of his company’s Corporate Social
Responsibility (CSR).

The Deputy Governor noted that uncontrollable population growth in an
emerging megacity like Lagos State has put pressure on the existing
public schools infrastructure, stressing that the limited resources at
government disposal would be inadequate to meet the education needs of
a teeming population without the support of individuals and
organisations.

While commending the donor for sharing government vision of promoting
quality education, she called on similar organisations to borrow a
leaf from the company by providing similar assistance that can help
government to meet the goal of raising the standard of education in
the State to an enviable status.

According to her, “we as government want to raise the education
standard of the State, but we are being challenged with high
population growth which put pressure on our infrastructure, yet we are
determined to provide quality education that will rank among the best
in the world, hence the need for the call on various organisations and
individuals to support the drive.”

The Deputy Governor further disclosed that the State Executive Council
has recently approved the sum of N10 billion for the rehabilitation
and renovation of public schools infrastructure, adding that the
intervention would help to bring significant improvement to teaching
and learning in public schools.

Earlier, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education, (SUBEB) Dr.
Ganiyu Shopeyin stated that the complementary effort by the company
would go a long way to improve the standard of education in the area.

He therefore called on the residents, especially, members of the
Community Development Association (CDA), Community Development
Committee (CDC) to make the best use and ensure adequate protection of
the facility for the development of their children.

Shopeyin said SUBEB, under his watch, would ensure regular
distribution of instructional materials and other infrastructure to
schools to ensure that pupils in public schools enjoy better
facilities like their counterparts in private schools.

In his remarks, the donor of the facility and the Managing Director of
Kazuma Shipping Company, Mr. Chahid Raffoul said his company was
inspired to donate the structure so as to complement government’s
efforts in improving the standard of education in the State.

Mr. Raffoul stated that the impact of good governance is being felt
within a short period of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration
and appealed to both federal and the State governments to continue to
improve the condition of roads in Apapa because of its economic
importance to the country.

He challenged other corporate organisations in the area to come to the
aid of the State government by providing assistance that could help
government in the implementation of its development plans.
