LASG ENGAGES STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL STEAM HOLIDAY CLASSES

Lagos State Ministry of Basic Education has commenced Special Science, Technical, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics classes for junior and senior secondary school students in Lagos State.

The programme, according to the Permanent Secretary of the newly renamed Ministry of Basic Education, Mr. Abayomi Abolaji, was organised to take advantage of the long vacation to encourage students on the need to be well grounded in sciences in line with the vision of the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

He, however, stressed that the STEAM holiday class is not a full-fledged learning session which covers as many subjects. However, it is purposely designed to channel students’ energy for productive activities, creativity and innovation which will be achieved through learning science subjects and exposure to skill acquisition.

Abolaji revealed that the programme tagged: “2023 STEAM Vacation Course” (SVC), had commenced in 308 secondary schools across the six Education Districts across the State on Monday 31st July and will end on Friday 25th August.

The Permanent Secretary also disclosed that as part of the preparation for school resumption in September, the Ministry had commenced transfer excise into JS2 and SS1 classes for students who wished to change their schools due to relocation and other valid reasons.

“Interested students are expected to forward their applications for transfer to the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic Education and fulfil other requirements as may be required before 31st of August 2023”, he stated.

He, therefore, advised parents to seize the opportunity of the holiday to strengthen family bonds and impart moral and cultural values in their children to stem indiscipline and other vices.
