LASG CELEBRATES YEAR 2018 COMMONWEALTH DAY
The Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Education has joined the rest of the world to mark year 2018 Commomwealth Day in the six Education Districts in the state with the theme, “Towards a Common Future”.
According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Adebunmi Adekanye, represented by Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District VI, Mrs. Olufunmilayo Onadipe in her keynote address, she described this year’s theme, “Towards a Common Future” a apt, given the prevailing world dynamics.
She said there was need for concerted efforts to pull down all obstacles on our way to build a sustainable and peaceful future that guarantees the optimal development of all, without inhibitions. She also enjoined students to imbibe the spirit of selflessness, inspiring them to think globally and live in peace with others.
Adekanye emphasized on the new implementation of the Yoruba Preservation and Promotion Law of the Lagos State Government and commended the students for knowing it by heart and rendering the Yoruba version of the first and second stanza of the National Anthem and the National pledge seamlessly in a short time. She opined this will invariably improve the overall academic performance of the education sector.
She eulogized the performances displayed by all the six Education Districts and their Teachers as a way of Promoting our cultural heritage as part of Commonwealth Nation.
In her welcome address, Director, Co-Curricular, Mrs. Omobola Babs-Akinyeye said the Commonwealth Day Celebration has become another avenue to discover the hidden talents of students and develop the existing ones.
She reiterated that celebrating Commonwealth day has provided an opportunity for individuals, Communities and Organizations to promote and share values of peace democracy and equality. According to her, this will go a long way to build bridges of mutual understanding among Commonwealth Nations.
Also, the students were advised to shun violence, examination malpractices, sexual, physical & mental Abuse, drug and cultism among other vices and face their studies and be modest as greater tomorrow.
Highpoints of the celebration was the presentation of prizes to the First, Second and Third positions respectively, which Education District IV, Yaba clinched the first position, second and third positions goes to Education District I, Agege and Education District V, Agboju.
