AMBODE URGES GRADUATES OF HEALTH INSTITUTIONS TO JOIN HANDS IN THE FIGHT AGAINST QUACKS

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has called on graduates of Health Institutions in the state to join hands with government to checkmate the activities of quacks in the health sector by professionally utilizing the training they received while in schools to effect better change.

The Governor gave the advice in Lagos on Monday at the 3rd Graduation ceremony of the Lagos State College of Health Technology, Yaba.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, the Governor noted that the Health sector is too critical to human existence and should not be left in the hands of quacks masquerading as professional caregivers, urging the graduating students of the college to distinguish themselves by effectively utilizing their training to make a difference in their professional practice.

He informed that the present administration had effected the automatic employment promised the graduates of the college during the last convocation ceremony by his predecessor just to demonstrate government’s commitment to efficient health service delivery to the people and implored them to justify  the confidence  reposed in them by making  an impact and improve the healthcare delivery system in the state and beyond.

In his words, “While I celebrate with the graduating students on this special day in their careers, I have no doubt that the training you have received in this institution will help in checkmating the activities of quacks masquerading as professional caregivers. You have been prepared to face the world, to make an impact and improve the healthcare delivery system not only in Lagos state but anywhere you may find yourselves”.

“I want you to look beyond your present challenges and focus on a more profitable and prosperous future that will guarantee a better and healthier society for our country”, Ambode pleaded

While commending the management of the school  for sustaining the standard of the institution as the premier college of Health Technology in the country, the Governor noted that the college’s mandate of producing well-trained, competent middle-level manpower for the healthcare sector is vital to the actualization of his administration’s vision of ensuring the well-being of the people  and a  healthcare delivery  system  that compares favourably well with the world best practices.

He added that the state government would continue to support health institutions of learning and implement policies that would impact on the health condition of the people.

Earlier in his welcome address the Provost of the College, Dr. Moyo Kasim noted that quality health education is necessary   so as to enhance a healthy society, stressing that the management of the school is doing its best to train professionals who work in the health sector to disseminate health information and render other services that would help government to realize its vision.

He noted that the Institution which has gone through series of transformations from 2012 till date had produced health professionals that have been contributing to the growth of the health sector in the country

A total of 1,200 students who successfully completed their courses in different areas of endeavors were awarded certificates by the College during the ceremony
