LASG TO OPEN FIRST EDUCATIONAL PORTAL FOR STUDENTS

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr. Obafela Bank-Olemoh has disclosed that Lagos State is set to open an educational portal under the code Lagos initiative of the State Ministry of Education.

Bank-Olemoh stated that the initiative is targeted towards getting an average of one million students in the State learn ICT modern technologies by 2019, adding that the portal will be made open to every student and interested facilitators in the State by the end of March

The portal, he revealed, has been designed to have over 2000 study-aids on core subjects with over 1600 tutorials videos in various subjects to keep them abreast in modern trends of technology.

The Special Adviser said “we want to bring in technology to make Lagos a smart city and make our students problem solvers” and expressed optimism that “the initiative will help to prepare the students for the future to make them problem solvers”.

He, however, called on Alumni associations of various schools and other private organization to partner with the government in achieving objectives of the crucial project which started a year ago.

He reiterated that the success of the project will only be achieved in a collective partnership with the private sector as monitoring should not be left for the government alone.

Also speaking at the event, the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education, Mr. Samsudeen Alison said the initiative is a deliberate attempt to establish a strong convergence between technology, economic development and governance as it will create more job opportunities in the nearest future.
